Ambulatory Blood Pressure (ABP) Monitoring Test

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) is a diagnostic test that measures blood pressure at regular intervals over a 24-hour period while the patient goes about normal daily activities and sleep. This test provides a detailed assessment of blood pressure variations throughout the day and night, offering more accurate information than a single in-clinic measurement.

The Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring test involves wearing a portable blood pressure monitor connected to an arm cuff for a full 24 hours. The device automatically records blood pressure readings at preset intervals during both daytime and nighttime.

ABPM helps identify blood pressure patterns, including daytime hypertension, nighttime (nocturnal) hypertension, and blood pressure variability. It is especially useful for diagnosing white-coat hypertension, masked hypertension, and for evaluating the effectiveness of antihypertensive treatment. The test is non-invasive and allows patients to continue most of their normal activities during the monitoring period.
